Not good for ear wax or make-up

In principle these reusable ear buds are brilliant.
But unfortunately they do not work.
I tried both heads as traditional ear buds, but they just seemed to spread the wax around my child's ear instead of collecting it and cleaning it off.
Then I thought of trying them on make up, but the silicone is so thick that it doesn't work as a brush, nor is useful to blend in or even clean off.
I think the silicone is not porous enough and I'm going to have to return to single-use paper ear buds.
